How to Choose the Perfect Place to Build Your Own House

When planning to build a house, one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make is where to build it. The right location doesn’t just give you shelter — it shapes your daily lifestyle, health, and even future financial stability.

Looking at the picture above, we see a simple piece of land with trees, greenery, and natural surroundings. At first glance, it may look ordinary, but it actually highlights many key factors you should consider when choosing the perfect place to build your own home.

1. Natural Environment and Fresh Air

A home surrounded by trees, like in the picture, has a huge advantage: fresh air and shade. Trees act as natural air filters, reduce pollution, and help keep your home cooler during hot days. This makes your living environment not only healthier but also more cost-efficient since you’ll save on electricity.

When selecting land for your future home, check if the surroundings have enough greenery. Even a small backyard tree can bring comfort, shade, and peace of mind

2. Space and Ground Condition

Notice the soil and open space shown. This is another important consideration. Before buying or building, observe if the ground is:

Stable and not too rocky (to avoid construction issues).

Not prone to flooding (check if water accumulates after rain).

Wide enough to fit not only your house but also a small garden, parking, or even space for kids to play.

I personally believe having a little extra land beyond your house is worth it. It gives you room for future expansion or even a mini backyard farm.

3. Privacy and Safety

From the picture, you can see fences and nearby houses. This shows the importance of privacy and neighborhood safety. A good home location should:

Be inside a community where neighbors look out for each other.

Have boundaries or fences for added security.

Be away from noisy highways but still accessible to main roads.

When I was searching for a place to build my own home, I made sure it wasn’t too isolated — safety is always a priority.

4. Accessibility to Daily Needs

While a peaceful, green location is nice, it’s also important to check if your future home is close to essential places such as:

Markets or grocery stores

Schools

Health centers or hospitals

Public transportation

A good balance between peaceful surroundings (like the tree-filled land shown) and accessibility to urban needs makes life more convenient.

5. Future Value

Land is not just for building a house — it’s also an investment. Ask yourself: Will this place increase in value over the years?

Locations near growing communities, upcoming infrastructure projects, or urban development often gain higher value. Choosing wisely now means your property will be more valuable in the future.

Personal Reflection

Looking at the picture, I imagine this land being turned into a simple, nature-friendly home. The tall tree could stay as a centerpiece in the yard, giving shade for a hammock or a small garden underneath. Personally, I would love to build a veranda facing the tree, where I can sip coffee every morning while listening to birds.

For me, the perfect place to build a house is one that doesn’t just provide shelter but also offers comfort, peace, and opportunities for family memories.

Conclusion

Choosing the right location for your house goes beyond just price. Think about the environment, safety, accessibility, and future value. A picture like the one above reminds us that sometimes, the best place to live is where nature and simplicity meet.

So before you build, take time to walk around, breathe the air, talk to locals, and envision your future life in that space. After all, a house is built with concrete — but a home is built with wise choices and happy memories.

"Pancit Bato: A Taste of Bicolano Heritage"

(Pancit Bato)

When it comes to Filipino merienda, nothing beats a hearty plate of pancit—especially Pancit Bato, a unique noodle dish from the province of Bato, Camarines Sur in the Bicol Region. Named after the town where the special dried noodles are made, this pancit is a must-try for every food lover looking to explore authentic regional flavors.

Unlike ordinary noodles, Pansit Bato has a firmer texture and absorbs flavor beautifully, making it a satisfying meal whether for lunch, dinner, or merienda.

Let’s explore how this flavorful Bicolano favorite is made!

 Ingredients:

250g Pancit Bato noodles (available in most Bicolano stores or local markets)

1/2 kilo chicken breast or thigh, sliced into small strips

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)

1 medium onion, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium red bell pepper, julienned

1 cup cabbage, chopped

2 cups water or chicken broth

Cooking oil

Salt and pepper to taste

 How to Cook Pancit Bato:

1. Sauté the aromatics: In a large pan or wok, heat oil. Sauté garlic and onion until fragrant.

2. Cook the chicken: Add sliced chicken and cook until lightly browned and tender.

3. Add soy and broth: Pour in soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional), and chicken broth or water. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

4. Add the noodles: Place the Pancit Bato noodles directly into the simmering broth. Allow the noodles to absorb the flavor while softening, stirring occasionally.

5. Toss in vegetables: Once the noodles are almost done, add the bell pepper and cabbage. Mix well and cook for another 3–5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

6. Season to taste: Adjust salt and pepper based on your preference.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve hot with calamansi on the side for that extra zing! Best enjoyed with a slice of bread or as is, paired with cold drinks during merienda or family gatherings.

💡 Did You Know?

Pancit Bato is more than just a dish—it’s a symbol of community and tradition in the Bicol Region. Whether during fiestas, birthdays, or ordinary afternoons, locals take pride in serving this flavorful noodle dish that brings people together.

"Bantay: The Heart of Our Home"

"He may not be purebred, but his loyalty is pure. In a world full of pedigrees, be like Bantay—real, loyal, and full of heart.”

Name: ChinChan (Asong Pinoy)

He doesn’t wear a cape. He doesn’t have shiny fur or a champion’s bloodline. But to us, he’s a hero.

Meet Bantay, our Aspin—short for Asong Pinoy—a loyal brown dog who stands guard in front of our home like a soldier with a wagging tail. He came into our lives not with fanfare, but with cautious steps and curious eyes. No pedigree. No papers. Just heart.

Bantay wasn’t bought from a fancy kennel. He was a stray once, a street survivor. One day, he showed up near our gate, hungry, muddy, and a little scared. We offered him leftovers. He came back the next day. And the next. Until he decided this was home—and we agreed.

Now, he chases off strangers, barks at unusual sounds, and makes sure no one passes without his approval. To outsiders, he’s just another bantay sa bahay—a typical house guard. But to us, he’s family.

Bantay doesn’t ask for much. A bowl of food, a shady spot on the pavement, and an occasional belly rub are enough. Yet, what he gives in return is more than we could ever repay—unwavering loyalty, silent protection, and love without conditions.

There’s something special about Aspins like Bantay. They’re not trained to be loyal—they just are. They’re not bred for beauty, but they shine with character. They might not win dog shows, but they win hearts.

Rain or shine, Bantay stands watch. When the streets are quiet and the night grows deep, he curls up near our doorstep, his eyes still half open, his ears still alert. He guards not just our house, but our peace of mind.

He’s more than a dog. He’s a reminder that sometimes, the greatest protectors come in the simplest forms—and love doesn’t need a price tag.

"Adopt, Don't Shop".

🌿 "The Journey of Becoming.”

In the stillness of a garden, a small caterpillar crawls slowly across a leaf. At first glance, it’s just another insect in the vast ecosystem of nature—but when we pause, observe, and reflect, we see a deeper message hidden in its gentle movement.

This tiny creature reminds us of a powerful truth: growth takes time.

Like the caterpillar, we often find ourselves in stages of life where we feel small, unnoticed, or uncertain. We inch forward day by day, sometimes without seeing immediate results. We face obstacles, uncomfortable changes, and the overwhelming urge to give up.

But nature is never in a hurry—and neither should we be.

The caterpillar doesn’t rush to become a butterfly. It honors the process: eating, resting, shedding its skin, and eventually building a cocoon. It surrenders to stillness, trusting that within the darkness, transformation is quietly taking place.

Just like that caterpillar on a leaf, your journey matters—even when progress feels slow. Your small steps, your silent battles, and your unseen efforts are all preparing you for something greater.

You are not stuck. You are becoming.

So the next time you feel behind, remember this image: a humble caterpillar crawling with quiet confidence. It may not have wings yet, but it carries the blueprint of a miracle.

“You are not stuck. You are becoming.”

And so do you.

"Through the Floodwaters: The Unseen Sacrifices of BJMP Personnel in Biñan City Jail"

"When most people see a flooded road, they turn around. But for the personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Biñan City Jail, turning back is not an option."

The image above captures a moment of real-life public service — a BJMP transport van trudging through knee-deep floodwaters caused by the onslaught of Typhoon Emong and the intensified southwest monsoon (Habagat). While many sought shelter from the rising waters, jail officers continued their sworn duty: to safeguard Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), maintain order, and ensure safety inside the facility — no matter the conditions outside.

This wasn’t just a commute. It was a mission powered by dedication.

Flooding caused by Emong and Habagat severely affected parts of Biñan, including the roads leading to the city jail. Transportation was paralyzed. Basic access to supplies and personnel was jeopardized. Yet, the BJMP team pushed through — not for praise, but because it is their oath.

Behind the Badge: Stories of Sacrifice

Officers soaked in rain, uniforms muddied, vehicles barely navigating the rising waters — these are just glimpses of the daily struggles many do not see. Often working under extreme conditions, BJMP personnel juggle the responsibility of law enforcement with the compassion needed for custodial care.

In times of disaster, their role expands even further. They must ensure:

Security of PDLs during calamities

Continuity of food and medicine supplies

Emergency protocols inside the jail

Coordination with LGUs and disaster response teams

All while their own families might also be affected by the very same flood they’re driving through.

Duty Beyond the Badge

What makes their effort even more commendable is that it rarely makes the news. These silent heroes work beyond the call of duty, often unnoticed, always committed.

Let this photo be a reminder: True service doesn’t stop at obstacles — not even floodwaters.

To all BJMP personnel across the country, especially those in Biñan City Jail, we salute you. Your dedication during these trying times is not just admirable — it’s inspiring.
